Silk Scarf Making Process-with pictures

Speaking of silk scarves, you may think of China, the cradle of silk. Since ancient time, silk has been the favor of women. They love silk handkerchief, silk clothes and silk scarves. Nowadays, silk scarve shave led the new trend in fashion world. No fashion show can be a success without the decoration of silk scarves. We love silk scarves and we buy them for ourselves. However, facing such pretty scarves, have you ever wondered how they could be made into such beauties? Have you ever thought where they come from? Of course, you will say that even fools know they are made of silk. But my point is how to change the plain silk into those colorful butterflies. Just follow me, and I‘ll tell you answers.

First of all, before you’re going to do something, you should work out the plan. It is the same with silk scarves making. Our design team designed the pattern, they might draw thousands of patterns and color them to achieve the most satisfactory one. Different designers prefer different styles of patterns, abstract, cute or cartoon styles.

Secondly, after approval of the pattern, the technicians are going to prepare dye, which is an important part of the whole process because it directly relates to scarves’ appearance.Technicians are supposed to make the colors for dye exactly the same with design model, by boiling, heating and color mixing. At the same time, the masters are preparing the screen, platemaking include net tighting and exposing screen.

Thirdly, it is time to make engraving when the screen and color are well papered. Almost each different color has its own engraving. This process requires high technique and patience. The degree of difficulty by doing this is no less than that of Chinese print.

Fourthly, technicians are in charge of dyeing when the engraving has been finished. The process of dyeing is done on a 50-meter table. They must pour the dye liquids with certain speed in order to make superior scarves. Dyed scarves need to be steamed.

Finally, the steamed scarves are supposed to be finished after the last process-crimping.

After all those complicated processes only can you see pretty silk scarves. Now let’s have a look at those gorgeous silk scarf, with softest hand feel, pretty screen printed, fine machine hemmed edge. We can understand that the pattern of this one is so delicate that it must require sophisticate technicians to make the engraving for it and carefully dye it.

What is momme? Silk scarf

Mommie (m/m) is the unit of measurement for silk fabric texture. Bigger the m/m number is heavier and thicker the same size fabric.

How to tie a scarf-1

Silk scarves are versatile fashion accessories for women. so  how to tie is the most important way we should learn. actually there are many many ways to tie, I will just show you some ways to tie as hair band.

1. Fold your scarf into a long rectangle (you can do this with traditional square scarves or skinny scarves). Tie it behind your head, under your hair.
2.Style your hair into a messy bun or top knot. Fold your scarf into a long rectangle and tie around your head so the knots in the front. Style the knot by twisting or tucking parts of it in.

3. Tie the scarf onto a strand of your hair in the back. Braid your scarf into your hair and (if long enough) use the end to tie the braid securely.
4. Fold your scarf into a large triangle (this works best with traditional square scarves). Tie the longest two ends around your head and cover your hair.
do you like them? try it.

Types of silk fabric

Silk is a kind of woven fabric that warp yarn and weft yarn interweaved. There are many kinds of silk, such as georgette(ggt), crinkled, chiffon, habutai, paj, satin, crepe de chine(CDC), mesh, twill, jacquard, doupion, satin stripe gauze, golden satin gauze etc.

And what is the discrepancy among these fabrics?
Georgette is a sheer, lightweight, dull-finished crêpe fabric named after the early 20th century French modiste, Georgette de la Plante:Originally made of silk and later of rayon or blends.. Georgette is plain or tabby woven, and like other crêpes is made with highly twisted yarns. Georgette's characteristic crinkly surface is created by alternating S- and Z-twist yarns in both warp and weft.
Georgette is made in solid colors or printsIt is springier and less lustrous than the closely related chiffon.

Chiffon: the common weight is 6mm, 8mm. It is also light and thin. But unlike ggt, the silk of chiffon is straight and looks clear.

Satin is weave that typically has a glossy surface and a dull back. It is a warp-dominated weaving technique that forms a minimum number of interlacings in a fabric. If a fabric is formed with a satin weave using filament fibres such as silk the corresponding fabric is termed a satin

Twill is a type of textile weave with a pattern of diagonal parallel ribs (in contrast with a satin and plain weave). This is done by passing the weft thread over one or more warp threads and then under two or more warp threads and so on, with a "step" or offset between rows to create the characteristic diagonal pattern. Because of this structure, twills generally drape well.

CDC: both sides are crepe and look dark.

How to clean a silk scarf

How to Clean Silk Scarves
www.huataisilkstore.net

Silk is the queen of fabric and everybody loves the smooth feel. Because of the expensive price of silk scarves, the skill to clean them is necessary for silk scarf fans.

Dry cleaning
The most common and convenient method to cleaning silk is dry cleaning. Sending to dry cleaners is an easy and safe way to clean your silk scarves.

Hand washing
You could find the silk detergent in the stores and then we start.
1. If a scarf has just serious dirt on it, you may be able to clean just the spot. Mix 1 tsp. detergent with 1 cup warm water (not hot). Using your finger wet the cloth and lightly rub the spot on the scarf. You may not be able to tell if it is removed until it is completely dry.
2. If the scarf has picked up a disagreeable odor or fell in a puddle you will need to wash it.
Add detergent into the clean water with a certain ratio as instruction. Soak your silk scarves into that solution for 5 to 10 minutes and then softly stir the silk scarves with your hands. Rinse completely with clean water for several times until no any detergent attached. Put wet silk scarves on a clean towel and roll up the towel. Gently press the towel and make the scarf dry. Hang silk scarves with hangers and dry scarves in the shaded place.

Glass bottle washing
Because of the silk scarf delicacy, some of damages are from your careless hand touch when washing. Here is another way to clean silk scarves. The instrument is just a simple glass bottle. Put the dirty silk scarves and detergent solution into the bottle. Cover tightly with a lid and then shake the bottle. No damage and easy to do. The rinse process is the same as the cleaning except with clean water only.
Tips & Warning
1. If your scarf has unwanted wrinkles after it dries, you may press the wrinkles out with a medium-hot iron.
2. The water temperature should be controlled below 30 Celsius degree.
3. Silk is acid resistance but not alkali. So do not use alkali detergent or soap detergent.
4.Wash separately without other clothing. Do not twist the scarf or clean with regular washing machine except the high end washing machine with silk cleaning set.
5. Airing in the shaded place and with a sleek hanger.

Silk scarves are wonderfully timeless and incredibly versatile, the ultimate go-to accessory. We believe them to be such an important addition to every one, so we are pleasure to show you how to wear it:
1. first find a great silk fabric – spring summer you can chose a colorful printing light gerogette or chiffon scarf. Square scarves offer a few more styling options than do rectangular ones, so we suggest purchasing a 90cm, 110cm  square.
2. Steam the silk. If you only have an iron, use the lowest setting possible, and place a towel over the fabric for extra protection.
3. The mark of a high-quality scarf is a hand-rolled hem. This can be tricky, but we think it’s worth the extra effort. First, sew a quarter inch in from the raw edge all around the scarf. Now you’ll want trim as close to the stitch as you can; a centimeter is a good amount. If you place some kind of a paperweight on the soon-to-be scarf, so that you can pull your fabric taught, this will help during trimming and hand-sewing.
4. Backstitch the edge. Then, keeping the fabric taut, hold that edge between your thumb and forefinger. Roll toward you. You’ll want to roll so that the earlier stitching is hidden inside the roll. Now, slipstitch the hem.
5. Your silk scarf is finished and ready for wear.
Once you’ve created your own beautiful, one-of-a-kind scarf, you’ll want to style it right. later, we've provided some of our favorite ways to tie a silk scarf.
